EndpagesJanuary 06 January Train WreckLooking for a little excitement, we piled in and went to take some pictures of the train wreck that happened this morning at about 3:30am. It was at Girls School Road and Rockville Road just east of the Avon Railyards. One train was coming in from the east out of Buffalo, NY and the other one rolled out of the Avon yards with no engine and no driver. The cars were just piles like sausages going the wrong direction on the track. There were tons of men in diggers and lifters and while we were there for about an hour, they only had one car partially back up on the track. There was diesel fuel visible from the side of the tracks we were on, but the Star and WTHR say that both Corn Syrup and Ammonium Nitrate were leaked as well. It was very interesting to watch! (I labeled some of the more interesting pictures!) Pray for the two men who were injured on the inbound train! December 16 Anticipating the SnowWhat an exciting weekend! Thursday the Indy weathermen were predicting a big snow but never suggested any numbers. Friday they had posted a winter weather watch, and we were stocking up on milk and bread as if the world would end. Wal mart was abuzz with pushy shoppers, but not the Christmas type. By late Friday the word was 11-17 inches. We dug out the snow blower and started her motor. Dug out the shovels and sleds. The snow began at 7am on Saturday and fell steadily all day. We knew that Sunday would be the day to lay the first footprint in the yard. Sunday morning was a lazy one, until the nephews and Erin arrived to sled down our hill. Hundreds of foot-sized craters appeared across the yard and up the hill. The bike ramp was put into place and the games began. Icy tears at the back door about every 3 to 5 minutes. Ice down the back, a missing sock, wet gloves and hats. Nothing some hot chocolate and a cup of chili couldn't fix...... August 31 Winners We spent a rainy weekend the 24th-26th at the Pike soccer fields. Rain pouring down, mud sloshing new white socks to a dingy shade of brown, both of my children played through. Will's team won thier semifinal after overtime and penalty kicks! They won the final game 2-1. Zack's team won thier first game of the weekend 19-0. That was a kill! The others were a little closer. They were the only two teams from the program to win thier division! We're so proud! June 18 Lone SurvivorI just want to recommend this book I've added to my list. The Lone Survivor is a book by a Navy Seal who went into Afghanistan on a mission with his fellow Seals and came out alone. He did an interview on the Today Show about a week ago, so you could probably find that on the Today Show website. His story is amazing and really makes it easy to admire a group like these Seals. The boys bought it for their dad for Father's Day, but their mom is keeping up on her reading while he's at work! Enjoy! |
